重擬宣傳策略‧檳拉英國遊客

檳州政府藉喬治市入遺之勢，重新制定旅遊宣傳策略，力爭日漸衰退的英國遊客回流。
檳州旅遊局將於10月搶先推出2萬份題為《喬治市，世界文化遺產》旅遊手冊，主動出擊世界最大型的英國旅遊展銷會，並將以“返鄉”概念做為這次宣傳主軸。
喬治市做為海峽殖民時代城市，一直以來都是英國遊客喜歡到訪的地方。因為曾是英國殖民地的關係，檳州被很多英國人視為“第二故鄉”。體現在建築與文化上的濃厚殖民色彩，一直是吸引英國遊客前來的賣點，也讓英國曾經多年高居檳州外國遊客排行榜之首。
時移勢易後，近年的英國客遊檳人數已呈逐年下滑之勢，由社會與經濟研究中心在2006和2007年發佈的遊檳外國客估計表中，都只占總人數的3%，一哥地位被日益增加的中東客取代。

乔治市入遗奏效 10月起近2千游客登陆槟岛

乔治市列入世界文化遗产后，附加价值马上显效，今年10月至11月份内，估计将吸引来自海外近2000名游客前来槟城观光。

掌管槟州旅游发展暨文化、艺术委员会主席罗兴强指出，自从乔治市申遗成功后，经已引国内外游客良好反应，他们都希望能有机会到访这小岛。

他说，在州政府与各界努力下，今年１０月，来自中国四川省的中国游客特地包机前来槟城旅游，同时在１１月份，至于来自芬兰的游客，将分为９趟包机赴槟城，每趟估计有百多名游客以上。

“槟州政府在这批贵宾到来时，我们将会设欢迎宴来招待他们。”

他说，相信拥有几世纪的古式建筑乔治市，加上各民族的文化宗教生活，加上世界文化遗产的头衔，会吸引许多海外游客到访。

他不忘强调，配合申遗的成功，槟州政府也一直努力推动各项活动，其中较早前就有日本盆舞节，还有近日的韩国文化表、泰国展及爱尔兰文化表演。

中文路牌今年挂上

槟州政府料在今年内兑现承诺，除了安装中文路牌，更会进一步根据各街道的文化背景及特色，来竖立各语文的路牌。
除了中文路牌，其他语文，包括淡米尔文及阿拉伯文，也会出现在槟城的特定街道，尤其是成功入遗的乔治市。

The smiling angel-faced songbird expressed interest in the role during the launching of a slimming centre at the Island Plaza shopping centre here.

“I've loved Penang for a long time. When I was younger, my family used to take drives from Seremban to Penang to visit friends or go on holiday.
“The beaches and scenery are wonderful and I would hope very much to be the face of Penang tourism,” Leong, a Negri Sembilan native, said yesterday.
The 30-year-old petite singer, who is now based in Taiwan, said she could not get enough of Penang's famous street food.
“The char koay teow is terrific and I managed to get great curry mee and wantan mee on this trip as well,” she said.

亞洲區僅次峇里布吉‧檳膺最佳旅遊島嶼

美國權威旅遊雜誌《Travel+Leisure》選出2008年最佳旅遊島嶼，厄瓜多爾的科隆群島首次成為全球最佳，印尼峇里島排第2；在亞洲區的前3名則為峇里島、泰國的布吉島和馬來西亞的檳城。

Penang Ferry

Penang Ferry Service is the oldest ferry service in Malaysia. The famous ferry service connects Sultan Abdul Halim ferry terminal in Butterworth to Raja Tun Uda ferry terminal at Weld Quay in George Town in Penang Island.

The ferry service began operation in 1920, under the management of a Chinese-owned company. However, today, it is jointly operated by the Penang Port Commission (PPC) and Penang Port Sdn Bhd.

Penang Bridge

The Penang Bridge a dual-carriageway toll bridge that connects Gelugor on the island of Penang and Seberang Prai on the mainland of Malaysia on the Malay Peninsula. The bridge is also linked to the North-South Expressway in Prai and Jelutong Expressway in Penang. It was officially opened to traffic on September 14, 1985. The total length of the bridge is 13.5 km (8.4 miles), making it among the longest bridges in the world, the longest bridge in the country as well as a national landmark. PLUS Expressway Berhad is the concession holder which manages it.

Before 1985, transportation between the island and the mainland was solely dependent on the state-owned Penang Ferry Service that runs between Butterworth and George Town.
